We had a tough week last week since Amelia came down with a virus that included a fever and a general feeling of being out-of-sorts. Meanwhile, the dog began suffering repercussions for having eaten those diapers, so when we weren’t up in the middle of the night for Amelia, we were up to let the dog out (over, and over again). Luckily, everyone seems back to normal!

We moved Amelia’s swing up to my office so that she can have a place to chill out while I am computering. In the photo above she is giving the illusion that she actually is happy to be in there. She doesn’t mind it for short bursts, but doesn’t exactly love it if she stays in there too long.
Amelia is changing every day. Ian and I are convinced that she is going to figure out how to get out of her Bumbo seat any minute now. She’s really good at shifting her weight so she can lean over the side of it and try to grab whatever is on the table nearby. She also sits up on her own on the couch or bed and can hold herself upright for a short while before toppling over.
She loves splashing in the bath by kicking both legs at once and Ian more often than not has a very wet shirt at the end of bathtime. This week we are working on Amelia going to sleep on her own. I am not ready to leave her to cry in her own room during naptime because I am just not convinced it is worth it. Instead when I see she is getting tired we will lie down together on the bed until she falls asleep. Both yesterday and today she cried for about 10 minutes off and on before she would let herself fall asleep. But, since I was right next to her I didn’t feel so badly letting her cry. She isn’t sleeping swaddled for naptime so she tends to wake herself up when she flails her arms or hands near her face, but I am sure as she gets used to it that will stop.
Amelia also naps in the stroller in the morning when we walk the dog and tends to have a snooze later in the day too, so we’re just working on going to sleep without being held for the early afternoon/lunchtime nap. I figure when she gets bigger it will probably only be two naps per day, or maybe only one, rather than 4 shorter ones.
I am sorry to hear that you folks had a rough week with Amelia’s first cold – yuck! Lulu caught a doozy of a cold and this past week has been rather terrible at our house as well… She has begun her transition into the terrible twos and it is not pretty times… Her defiance is compounded by not feeling well and choosing not to eat what we offer her… Last night’s supper was half a banana… Yup, that is it! She has never been a real foodie… I am not letting myself worry about it (or the fact that she is also not drinking anything so last night she had not wet her diaper – ALL night!). So, I hear ya for the crappy week… But hopefully, as it has over here, Amelia’s cold is clearing up and we both shall have blue skies again… Big big hugs for all of you – at least the first illness is done now!
