So after testing out “regular” diapers, those made by Moltex as well as Seventh Generation’s diapers, we have found that we like Seventh Generation’s best. They don’t have silly cartoons on them (which could be cute when your kid is old enough to understand what they are, but seems unnecessary for an infant), they fit well and the unused diapers don’t smell funny. We found that both the “regular” diapers and the Moltex had a smell to them that we didn’t particularly like. Additionally, the Seventh Generation diapers fit Amelia better than the Moltex in the lower weight range, although only the “regular” diapers made a size small enough for Amelia in her first few weeks. Also, none of the diapers we have tried have proven to be leak-proof yet.
I still want to try a cloth diapering system, but I’m waiting until I move into the new house so I will have more space for laundry and hanging the covers to dry. Come January, I should be able to test this system to see if it works well and whether it may have less environmental impact. Right now, despite using more eco-friendly diapers, I still feel uncomfortable about the amount of garbage we are producing. It is amazing how much more waste you produce with a baby — virtually all diapers.
I was prompted to blog about diapers after reading a post on Fig&Sage about Seventh Generation and how it has been named the “number one company in the world” by The Better World Shopping Guide, a buying resource for “ethically-minded consumers.” Fig&Sage is having a give-away for a Wee Generation eco-friendly diaper bag, which looks like a pretty neat (limited edition) product.
We also enjoy 7th gen diapers—I totally agree on the smelly factor of the other ones…very growse! We started using the g diapers yesterday–he can fit into the medium ones now, being over 13 lbs…They are cute, fun to use, and we’re still getting used to them. I’ll let u know how it goes over time.
Have fun moving into ur new place! Very exciting!
Interesting re: the thoughts on Seventh Generation diapers… We recently went back to them when we ran out of our regular brand of diapers… Poor LucĂa developed a small diaper rash while using them, which then cleared up when we went back to our regular brand… Odd… And I shall be honest, our “regular” brand is nothing eco-friendly (shhhh, don’t tell anyone!).
