bamboo

So in my quest to avoid a vinyl shower curtain for the new house, I came across this site that sells bamboo linens. Is it crazy to pay $80 for a shower curtain? Most places don’t seem to offer bamboo or organic cotton curtains, or if they do they require dry cleaning. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of eco-friendly?

All suggestions welcome. Out bathroom has lots of colours so I will likely need something neutral/cream coloured.

eco options for strollers

So I was reading safemama.com and came across an entry about safer options for rain covers for strollers. It is amazing how many things can potentially be toxic to babies (or anyone, really). We don’t have a rain cover for our stroller, but not because I was worried about the plastic being toxic. We just didn’t buy it when we bought the stroller. Nonetheless, apparently the new stroller that I won comes with a rain cover, which I was originally excited about but now I am rethinking my excitement. One mommy blogger did some research into better options for stroller covers after reading an article about shower curtains (– note, I will now be looking at a “safer” shower curtain option for our upstairs bathroom –). Anyway, this mommy blogger did some serious research on the topic and found an option that seems to fit on a bunch of different strollers (including the one we have - yay!)

In Amelia news, she has been sleeping like a rockstar lately. On Friday night she slept 8.5 hrs straight, while last night she made it 7.5 hrs. It is awesome to feel well rested when I wake up.

Some old friends came to visit yesterday. Adam and I went to kindergarten together. It was pretty amazing seeing him hold Amelia. And she just couldn’t get enough of him.

win, lose or draw

I won a stroller! We filled out raffle forms last night at the show and they called to say I won today! I guess it was worth the trip! Apparently it is a very compact stroller that you can just throw in the car. I am picking it up Monday so more news then.

In house news, we are moving Dec 18. Can’t believe we are actually going to be in the new house, but the end is in sight. Old houses come with a lot of problems. Luckily our contractor is fabulous.

Amelia slept for 8 hours last night. She had one longer nap during the day and a few short ones. She woke me up at 6 as she was tossing around but she didn’t awaken and stopped tossing after about 30 minutes. She slept till 7:30. Awesome!

We went to a show for moms last night. There were a few cute things but it wasn’t very big (not too many vendors. Leads me to believe there is a need for cute baby stuff in this town. Homemade baby stuff.) I mostly wanted to go to talk to the wee hands lady. Teaching Amelia sign language is something I have been interested in for a while, so I think we will do the class in January.

Everyone there seemed impressed I had ventured out with a baby so young. I guess most folks spend most of their time at home for the first few months. We have been home a bunch but try to get out at least a little each day.

I guess it is easier when your baby is easy. However, I have to admit that taking Amelia and the dog to the vet on Wednesday was not the simplest of tasks. Luckily there were no other dogs in the waiting room and Amelia was an angel.

mismatched

We have a sock problem. We can never find pairs. Or at least I can’t. It might be because I have too many socks. Or it might be because the dog always takes one and misplaces it. Or the dryer eats them. I’m not sure what the reason is, but several years ago I just stopped worrying about if they matched. Obviously I wore matching socks to work (most of the time) but let me tell you, it is much easier to just reach into the drawer and pull out two random socks rather than root around for two that are the same. In any event, a good friend got me a pair of socks that intentionally do not match, and we also got a gift for Amelia of the same socks (except in miniature). Turns out the company that makes them has a website, and they sell LOTS of mismatched things! This is VERY tempting.

Amelia & elephant

We have hung a blue & pink stuffed elephant above Amelia’s new playpen. She absolutely loves it, and breaks into a big smile when she catches sight of it. It is a hard angle to get a picture, but here’s one of those silly smiles.

vaccinations

If you are having a baby in Quebec in the near future, call for your two-month vaccination appointment as soon as your baby is born. We only saw the doctor at week seven, and she recommended that Amelia get her vaccinations this week. Yeah. The CSLC only has space in late January, while the Mediclub where Amelia’s pediatrician is only has space in mid-January. Why don’t they tell you that you need to call two months ahead of time to get an appointment? What’s the point of “two month” vaccinations if they get them at four months?
