holding pattern

So after waiting a good 4 hours to see the doctor on Friday, I found out I’m still 1 cm dialated and maybe 25 percent effaced. What does that mean? Baby may come any time now, or she may decide to stick it out a little longer. Am I getting impatient? Not yet. I’m enjoying being able to relax, read some books, do small errands here and there and enjoy my last few moments before it’ll be 24-7 baby time.
I have gotten in 3 good walks in the past few days, and I still feel well aside from a little swelling of the hands and feet. And because I don’t really have very good use of my abs anymore (they are pretty stretched out, although they don’t seem to have split, which is nice), my back does get a little achy if I stand for too long.
The condo is mostly ready, although it’d be helpful if the pets didn’t decide to lie on everything that I’ve just cleaned. Luckily, we don’t really mind a little cat or dog hair here and there and I don’t seem to have developed the “must have everything super-clean before baby” hormones raging through me. I’m more of the “it’s clean enough” school of thought.
The pre-registration is done and submitted to the hospital so we won’t have to bother with all those papers when we arrive in labour. It’s nice to know that is out of the way. At the hospital, until our baby is named, she’ll be known as “baby Rae.” It has a cute ring to it, I think.
I’ve read a few books in the last couple of days — The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, The Friday Night Knitting Club and I’m part way through The Assassin’s Song. I’m also up to date on New Yorkers, which is sort of a big deal since I have been falling behind for months now. I’m sure it won’t last!
