The other night Clara did not want to go upstairs for bathtime. Using standard parenting wisdom, I offered her two options, one heavily loaded. Our conversation went like this:
Me: “Clara, it is time to go upstairs. Mimi is already up there.”
Clara: “No.”
Me: “Well, you have two choices. You can go up and have a bath, some books and then bedtime with songs, or you can just go straight to bed.”
Side note: Amelia would have chosen the better option and gone upstairs
Clara: “No like any of those, Mama.”
That’s right, my just-turned two-year old knew in an instant she could reject both options and ask for an alternative.
I think we are in serious trouble.
But we have known that since Day 1.
Remember the notamea two year old?
