As Ian says, “Amelia stretches like a big person.” Here’s a picture of her doing her usual stretching exercises. She seems to be discovering her limbs more and more each day, and stretching is part of it. She also likes to swing her arms around and around as though she is swimming, and kicks her legs in rhythm.
So far we haven’t introduced a pacifier. She hasn’t really started fussing enough to justify it, in my mind, and I haven’t done enough research on it to know what to think about it. But, she has gotten her fingers in her mouth a few times and does seem to love sucking on them. Interestingly, the Happiest Baby on the Block recommends that using a pacifier to sooth a fussy (colic-y) baby is good, but also suggests that it not be used past 5 months or so, so the baby doesn’t become dependent on it.
Ian has been giving Amelia a bottle every day or two. Apparently once you introduce the bottle you need to keep giving them one every few days so they are used to it and continue to be willing to take it. I’m not thrilled with the manual pump I bought. I’m not sure if it is me or the pump, but I’m not able to get more than 1 or 2 ounces at a shot. So, I either have to pump repeatedly throughout the day, or only give Amelia a little from the bottle and the rest from the breast. I guess I now have to consider whether to “upgrade” to an electric pump (more expensive, but potentially more efficient?).
