I have been resisting Twitter because I couldn’t see the use of restricting communications to 140 characters. I barely use the “update status” feature on Facebook, so I didn’t think I would have a use for Twitter either. However, Ian suggested that I read up on it and see how it is being used for business, publishing and by other media, so I signed up for a Twitter account (@aliofish).
So far, it seems like the links other people post may turn out to be the most interesting part of Twitter for me.
I particularly like two I’ve come across: Flashlight Worthy (books worthy of reading under the covers with a flashlight) and Publish2.com, a site for using link journalism (from the site: “link journalism is linking to reporting or sources on the web to enhance, complement, or add more context to original reporting.”)
In other, non-geeky news, an inspiring athlete I know is also planning to run a marathon this year and document her training online. I plan to use her blog as a source of inspiration (although I imagine that my marathon time is going to be somewhat slower — maybe by hours — than hers).
I am so enjoying watching Amelia thrive, and I find your comments very interesting. Special thanks for the FlashlightWorthyBooks mention–in fact, thanks from my whole book group in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY! Hoping to meet you in person when you come up to the lake with Alice and Norman…
