Two years

Two years ago, Ian and I got married here (photos are here). We legally tied the knot a week before at the courthouse in Montreal but we consider our wedding anniversary to be on June 9th, when we were joined by friends and family for a wonderful weekend in the country. Yesterday, Ian and I went out for dinner together to celebrate our second anniversary. It was the first time we’ve left Amelia to do something just us.

The beauty of living in our neighbourhood is the wide selection of good restaurants available within walking distance. We had a lovely time, just the two of us, and Amelia slept like a dream so our friends who came over to babysit didn’t have any trouble. Our next outing without Amelia is likely going to be to see UP. We are such kids.

On Monday, I got two books from Penguin to review. It was great timing, since I was literally walking out the door to go to the bookstore. Of course, I still went to the bookstore and bought a few for myself and some more board books for Amelia — hard to believe we didn’t already have The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or HUG, or Peepo. Now we do!

We are aiming to hit up the Ormstown Fair this weekend. I haven’t been in a few years, but I figure it’s time that Amelia got to meet some real farm animals. I don’t think we’ll be able to stay to see all the draft horses, but maybe we’ll peek at them in the barn. The Ormstown Fair reminds me, in a way, of Dairy Days. Dairy Days used to take place in a town not far from my family’s country house. The best part about Dairy Days was watching the kids try their hand at cornering a piglet in a pen full of mud and forcing it into some sort of barrel. Seems a little mean spirited, looking back, but man was it funny.

I think you’ll enjoy “UP.” Nic and I saw it last weekend. You’ll need the previews to get used to the 3D experience. Film reminded me of one my sister’s all time favorite books when we were kids – Balloonia. Wonder if you’ll still find it among the children’s books now.
Happy Anniversary to you both!!! (It’s July 8 in my books – 13 yrs)

Happy anniversary! I’d totally love to see Up if only I had a babysitter. Oh well, I guess we’ll wait until it’s on Illico 900!!!
And I was reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to LP just last night! I love this book so much. It made me realize that now is time to find a way to crank up his English learning a notch though (books and Sesame Street does not make him understand apparently). Wanna trade kids for a day or two? I speak French to Amelia and you English to LP? :-) (Kidding, I’d never do that to you).
