The other night, Amelia and Clara alternated waking up every few hours. Neither seemed to have any particular complaint but both required us to make multiple trips into their rooms to encourage them to go back to sleep. And then they decided that 6 am seemed like a good time to get up for the day.
A little later on in the morning, when Amelia, Clara and I were in the living room on the couch I asked Amelia if she remembered waking up during the night. She said “I remember waking up when it was light and then Dada came to get me and took me downstairs to be with Clara.” And I nodded but then questioned whether she remembered waking up when it was dark. She said “no” so then I said something along the lines of “why do you think you girls woke up so many times last night?”
Amelia thought for a second and then said “sometimes kids just do that, mama.”
How right she is. Sometimes they just do.
