yoga!

Last night I went to my first yoga class since Amelia was born. I learned that you really do use your abs for all core activities. It is funny the things you just take for granted when you are in shape. Luckily, I was able to do everything and did not feel that my stamina or ability to hold postures was much compromised. It was only an hour-long class, but it was good nonetheless.

On the other hand, it was pretty tough to leave Amelia for that long (about 2.5 hours), even though Ian was the one taking care of her. He did a great job, of course, it was just the longest I’ve been separated from her and I just wanted to get home to cuddle her.

Somewhat to my chagrin, we’ve started using the pacifier to help Amelia deal with the reflux. Apparently sucking on a pacifier can help babies with reflux because it generates more saliva and that soothes the esophagus. We were pretty against giving Amelia a pacifier, but it seems like being a parent is all about compromise, even when she is this young. We have only given it to her a few times when she seems inconsolable and we’ve tried all the other options we can think of. And as soon as she spits it out we figure it has done its job and don’t give it back to her. But, I still feel uncomfortable about it.

We’re seeing the pediatrician on Thursday for the first time. It will be interesting to see what she recommends for the reflux. Apparently about 50 percent of infants have reflux somewhere between 2-4 months. For some it lasts much longer, and some it is more serious. We’re hoping it will abate pretty soon, for Amelia’s sake.
